Police Department for being given police escorts from D.C. police officers. Other notable names under investigation include Charlie Sheen and Bill Gates. Police department protocol stipulates that private citizens are not allowed to receive police escorts.

Jay-Z received an escort on March 3rd, 2010 after he performed at the Verizon Center. Earlier in the day, he had visited the White House. According to reports, the rapper was picked up from Dulles Airport and was given a police escort between the hours of 3 p.m. and 1 a.m. the next day. However, he did reimburse the city in the amount of $1,114.20.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier explained that escorts by police are only supposed to be used for top U.S. and foreign officials, “It’s president, vice president, visiting heads of state, mayor and others if there’s a public safety issue.” One of the D.C. council members, Phil Mendelson, is debating whether or not to hold a hearing over the issue because of conflicting reports on why private citizens were given police escorts.

This issue first came to national attention several weeks ago when Diddy was given a police escort from a performance venue in New York City to a club in New Jersey. He was originally supposed to take a helicopter, but they never received clearance to take off. Police felt there was an issue with crowd control and the safety of both the artist and a growing crowd and deemed it acceptable to give the rapper a police escort. Since the incident, the NYPD has begun an investigation into the matter citing the same reason as the D.C. Police – private citizens, even celebrities, are not entitled to police escorts.

What do you think? Should any citizen, a celebrity like Diddy or Jay-Z or not, be allowed to receive a police escort if his or her safety is at stake?

Many rappers have crossed over from the music realm into movies, but not many have done so on such a grand scale or as successfully as rap giant 50 Cent. The rapper will tackle a starring role in the upcoming film “Odd Thomas” that is based on one of Dean Koontz’s novels and also stars William Dafoe, Anton Yelchin and others.

50 Cent will play a blind DJ named Shamus Cocobolo who uncovers a Satanic cult. The movie will be produced by Fusion Films, and shooting will begin in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The rapper’s movie career caught national attention when he made headlines for losing over 50 pounds to play a cancer-stricken football player in “Things Fall Apart.” But, he’s been appearing in movie since 2003. Other upcoming projects he’s tied to include: “Lives of the Saints,” “Fire with Fire,” “Freelancers,” “Vengeance” and “Setup.”

Like we noted earlier, 50 Cent is not the first artist to make the transition over to the big screen. Other notable rappers include Diddy and Will Smith. Will Smith is probably the most successful tv-actor-turned-musician-turned-cinematic-gold. Diddy has appeared in several movies, but rarely gets good reviews. What’s your opinion? Do you think 50 Cent is a good actor? What other rappers would you love to see on the big screen?

Rapper M-Bone, one of the four members of the hit rap group Cali Swag District, was killed last night as a result of two gunshot wounds to the head in a drive-by shooting. The 22-year old was killed in his hometown of Inglewood, California.

Witnesses to the event say M-Bone was seated in his vehicle when the gunmen pulled up alongside him in another car, fired off two rounds and then fled the scene. The rapper was still alive when police arrived, but he later died in the hospital as a result of his wounds.

M-Bone, whose real name is Montae Talbert, rose to fame with the other three members of Cali Swag District in 2010 with their hit single, “Teach Me How To Dougie.” The song honored the popular dance by hip-hop superstar Doug E. Fresh, and the remix featured Jermaine Dupri, B.o.B., Bow Wow and Red Cafe. The frontman of the group, C-Smoove, tweeted early this morning, “Ma life changed drastically in the blink of an eye. rip mbone.”

Cali Swag District was schedule to released their debut album, “The Kickback” sometime this year. Here’s the video of “Teach Me How To Dougie” (the remix) if you haven’t seen it yet:

Fans long awaiting rap superstar 50 Cent’s new album can breathe a small sigh of relief – no, it’s not out yet, but the rapper tweeted about it recently, saying: “I been working hard my album is almost done. I took my time now everybody’s gonna hear 2011 GET RICH OR DIE TRYING. The meanest s***.”

He had previously said that he would be revisiting content from his 2003 debut “Get Rich Or Die Tryin’,” which featured aggressive and dysfunctional behavior. If the new album proves to be similar to his first, its chances of success are almost guaranteed. His 2003 debut sold over 8 million copies and only two rappers – Eminem and Nelly – have outsold that debut.

There were rumors circulating a while back that the new album would be called “Black Magic” and that it would have more of a “worldwide” sound; however, the rapper decided not to release that album. The new album, despite being compared to “Get Rich Or Die Tryin’,” still does not have a title. It will be 50 Cent’s first release since his 2009 album ‘Before I Self-Destruct.”

Also, there was point in time where the rapper announced he would not cut his hair until he finished his album. Whether he’s actually gone through with that is unclear, but one thing is sure – fans who have been waiting two years for a new album might not “get rich,” but they might “die waiting” if the album doesn’t appear soon.

He was partners with dancer Chelsie Hightower.

The rapper explained how the show has already impacted his life, “This show has changed my life forever. I was terrified of dancing. I didn’t dance at my own prom, I turned down a lot of movies because I was terrified of dancing…I think I showed kids, anything is possible if you try.”

Romeo was the seventh contestant voted off the show following Wendy Williams, Sugar Ray Leonard, Kendra Wilkinson, Chris Jericho, Petra Nemcova and Mike Catherwood. Only four celebrities remain: Kirstie Alley, Chelsea Kane, Ralph Macchio and Hines Ward. The semi-finals begin next week.

Romeo was originally scheduled to be a cast member during the second season of DWTS; however, he withdrew, and his father, Master P, took his place in the competition and was partnered with Ashly DelGrosso.

Romeo is not the first rapper to try his hand (well, legs) on the mega-hit dancing show. Previous hip hop artists who were cast on the show include: Mya, Lil Kim, Mel B., Master P, Macy Gray and Mario.

Was Romeo voted off too early? Are there any other hip-hop/rap artists you’d like to see appear as a contestant on “Dancing With The Stars?”

Charlotte, North Carolina prosecutors have dropped all charges against six men who allegedly shot at rapper Waka Flocka Flame’s tour bus in February while he was engaging with fans in a car stereo store parking lot. The charges of attempted armed robbery, conspiracy, and discharging a weapon were dismissed because none of the witnesses were able to pick out the shooter.

On February 16th, Flame’s tour bus’ audio was being upgraded, and one of the rapper’s security guards shot a man during a failed robbery attempt. Several days following the incident, police followed a white Dodge Charger in a high speed chase – the same one identified as being at the scene of the robbery – and ended up apprehending several of the suspects.

Despite several of the suspects having a long history of criminal activity, District Attorney Andrew Murray explained, “We didn’t have enough evidence to prosecute any of them. The defendants are still in custody. That’s why we need to dismiss the charges now. I’m not thrilled about having to dismiss these charges. Some of these guys have felony records.” Without witnesses being able to identify the shooter, there was no evidence of an attempted robbery.
